Engineering Council Registration – CEng, IEng and EngTech Professional Status

Route to Engineering Council Registration for ICorr Members  in partnership with the Society of Operations Engineers (SOE)

Registration for Institute of Corrosion Professional Members takes place through the Registration Agreement with the Society of Operations Engineers, a Licensed Member of the Engineering Council (ECUK).  This registration will confer the titles of Chartered Engineer (CEng), Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or Engineering Technician (EngTech) dependent upon the Applicant’s qualifications and experience.

Why Become Registered?

If you are Professionally Registered  with the Engineering Council (EC), your status shows employers that you have and are committed to maintaining and enhancing the knowledge, skills and competence required to meet the engineering and technological needs of today.  This sets you apart from those who are not registered. The titles available are explained below.

EC Registration increases a person’s earning potential and establishes credibility with peers across the profession.  The professional qualifications of CEng, IEng and EngTech are internationally recognised.

Maintaining registration requires continued professional membership of a Licensee or Professional Affiliate of the Engineering Council who in turn, can help registrants find development opportunities through exposure to new developments, training or networking opportunities.

For Engineers who, already a Professional Members of the Institute (FICorr, MICorror TICorr) consider that they meet all the competency requirements as detailed in Engineering Council’s UK-SPEC 4th Edition and wish to apply to be registered, please download the relevant application form and guidance notes.

How Does it Work?

An Applicant must be Professional Member of ICorr (i.e FICorr., MICorr, or TechICorr ), before applying to become registered.

The Applicant shall complete the appropriate form which is then sent, complete with all necessary documents, to the Institute of Corrosion, Corrosion House, 5 St Peters Gardens, Marefair, Northampton, NN1 1SX, United Kingdom or electronically to admin@icorr.org.

The Applicant’s Professional Membership status is confirmed and the form etc. is then sent on to the EC Registration Coordinator who reviews it for completeness, qualifications, etc.  If not complete, further information will be requested from the Applicant.  Satisfactory applications will then be submitted to the SOE Individual Assessment Panel for review of completeness of the application, qualifications levels and to make recommendations for the route to registration.  It is then forwarded to SOE Registration Committee and Marking Panel  who will ratify the recommendation of the Individual Assessment Panel and advise the Applicant via ICorr of the most appropriate Registrant Grade and route for the Applicant.

On satisfactory submission of all requested documentation, applicants with Recognised qualifications, will be requested to attend the Professional Review Interview (PRI).

For applicants without Recognised Qualification, they may proceed via the Individual Application route and requested to provide more detailed information for the Experiential Route or to provide a Technical Report.

Further details on the routes are provided in the Guidance notes – see links.

If the application is approved following the PRI by the Registration Committee and Marking Panel, the Applicant will be informed.  SOE will inform ECUK to enter the name of the Applicant to the ECUK Register.  Should the application be unsuccessful, the Applicant will be informed giving advice as to further steps.
