Young Institute of Corrosion (Young ICorr) are really please to have Dr Bijan Kermani presenting “Challenges and future of the discipline”. The general energy outlook indicates that there is an increasing global energy demand and that hydrocarbons still contribute to the majority of the global energy mix. Technology continues to play a fundamental role for the hydrocarbon industry sector’s business success; reducing capital and operational expenditure, environmental, safety and reputational risk and increasing reliability. In these, innovative materials/corrosion and integrity management technologies play significant roles.
While significant progress has been made over the years in understanding the root causes of integrity management threats with advances in innovative solutions to address key challenges facing the sector, there still remain major challenges.
This presentation covers three themes including (i) a career path, (ii) corrosion and materials challenges facing hydrocarbon production industry sector, and finally (iii) how corrosion and metallurgy discipline is moving forward.
It concludes that the future is bright for corrosion discipline, although many challenges remain; the requirement for future innovation and the portrayal of a positive image of the discipline.
Following the talk there will be a team quiz, we will allocate the teams to enable you to meet other Young ICorr members. We look forward to seeing you then.
